That’s why we issued our team a sports challenge to promote physical activity and healthy habits. The best part? For every two kilometres run, walked or biked, Lareau donated $1 to the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir.

“At Lareau, we’re committed to giving back to our community and having a positive impact, which is why we mobilized our team around this initiative,” explains Philippe Lareau, President – Chief Executive Officer. Thanks to our participants’ efforts, the team is proud to have raised $2,257 for the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir, with 4,514 km travelled for a good cause!

Why the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir?

At Lareau, we now have 200 colleagues who go above and beyond. Most importantly, though, all 200 of us are directly or indirectly affected by children’s health. When it came to choosing a foundation, the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir was a natural choice and quickly garnered the most votes from the team.

The mission of the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir is to improve the quality of life of seriously ill children by providing children and their loved ones with personalized support based on the family’s needs. In addition to funding programs that promote the well-being of sick kids, the foundation is also a strong supporter of pediatric cancer research.

How it worked

The rules of the challenge were straightforward: simply walk, run and/or bike the most kilometres over the course of a month. Although the chosen activity had to be done solo at home due to government restrictions, the challenge still fostered a strong sense of togetherness among participants.

The Strava app came in very handy when it came to counting kilometres, allowing participants to track their progress and that of their colleagues.

Philippe Cholette, a keen runner in his off-work hours, ran the most kilometres throughout the month, for a total of 459.65 km. “It always feels great to get out and run, but doing it to help sick kids motivated me push myself even harder and go the extra mile,” he says. Nancy Barriault was the participant who made the most outings throughout the month – 41 in all.

Getting involved every day

Promoting physical and mental well-being is important to us, especially when it’s for a good cause and has a positive impact on our community. We are thrilled to know that local children will benefit from our efforts. A challenge like this one could easily be repeated in the future, depending on your teams’ level of interest. Remember, the smallest gestures often make all the difference. Who’s up for the challenge?

Should you feel so inclined, we encourage you to donate to the Fondations des Gouverneurs de l’espoir by visiting their website.

From left to right: Philippe Cholette, who ran the most kilometres throughout the month, Nancy Barriault, who made the most outings throughout the month, Philippe Lareau, Lareau’s President – Chief Executive Officer, and Sonia Consentio, Communications Officer at the Fondation des Gouverneurs de l’espoir.

Mixing business with pleasure: we know a thing or two about that at Lareau!
