How can you protect your vehicle from theft?

Your damage insurance broker is the best source of advice (to help you prevent making a claim for a stolen vehicle!). After having contacted your broker, we recommend adopting the following habits to stack the odds in your favour:

  • Always lock your doors—even if you are quickly running into the depanneur.
  • Avoid parking your car in the same place for a long period of time.
  • Choose well-lit parking spaces.
  • Hide all visible objects that are inside the vehicle.
  • Never leave your electronic devices in your vehicle. Thieves use tools that allow for detecting radio signals emitted by electronic devices. The risks are lower when your devices are turned off, but there are still risks.
  • Avoid leaving your car running unattended, including in the winter when warming it up.
  • Plan to install a theft-deterrent system.

Tag vehicle tracking system

The Tag Tracking system considerably reduces risks of theft. The system can quickly be installed throughout your vehicle and gives thieves a hard time because it is difficult to remove. To learn more, you can always ask your Lareau broker about the system or contact Tag Tracking directly. Did you know that insurers often require that owners of commonly stolen cars install this system? If your vehicle isn’t on the list, know that this system can only be beneficial to prevent a claim. Here are three other advantages associated with installing such a system:

  1. You receive a cash credit after installing the Tag system.
  2. With some insurers, you may receive a discount of up to $100 on the cost of installation or even a discount on your insurance policy of up to 20%.
  3. You prevent claims and, therefore, increases to your insurance premium.

The total savings cover a large portion of the cost of installation of the system.

As you can see, several insurers reward vigilance. If you take the initiative to reduce your risks of theft, especially if your vehicle is one of those most commonly stolen, you will have peace of mind and save some money! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your Lareau broker.
